CRESSON — Penn Cambria was a couple of plays from being undefeated for the second straight season, but the Panthers came face-to-face with one of the teams that rallied past them — Forest Hills — in the District 6 Class 3A semifinals Friday night at Panther Stadium.
The Rangers outscored Penn Cambria by 14 in the second half en route to a Week 3 win in September and some of the talk after that game caught the attention of senior Panther quarterback Brady Jones, who ran for three touchdowns and threw for another in Friday’s 41-7 victory.
“We came into this game and the word of the week was dominate,” Jones said. “We came into this game with a chip on our shoulder and wanted to get back at them. One of their players had a quote that said — ‘what even is Mountain Mentality?’ Well, I guess they found out tonight.”
Jones ran for 116 yards, but teammate Corbin Vinglish was even better with 17 carries for 214 yards and a 65-yard touchdown run as Penn Cambria punched its ticket to the District 6 title game against second-seeded Huntingdon on Friday at Mansion Park.
“It’s about legacy,” Vinglish said. “I want to make a name for myself and make history and so does every other player on this team.”

The Panthers, the defending champions, will try to win the second district title in school history.
“It means everything,” Penn Cambria coach Jason Grassi said. “I’m so proud of the seniors. Last year, going there we won it for the first time with a great group of seniors, and these guys came in and picked up where they left off. They are continuing that tradition.”
Play of the game: On the first play after Xander Richardson cashed in a 1-yard touchdown run for Forest Hills that made it 21-7 in the second quarter, Vinglish ran through a huge hole and went untouched 65 yards for a score that made it 28-7.
“It was something a running back dreams of,” Vinglish said. “It was beautiful.”
Player of the game: In addition to his 214 yards rushing, Vinglish caught a pass for 16 yards that set up another score, sacked Richardson on Forest Hills’ first possession to force a punt, and he went over 1,000 yards rushing for the season.

“He’s amazing,” Grassi said. “He’s tough to bring down, and our line made some big holes for him. When he’s on defense, he’s all over the field making tackles. He’s a heck of a football player.”
Unsung heroes: Penn Cambria’s offensive line blew open huge holes all night which allowed the Panthers to… (see below).
Most vital statistic: With the help of Vinglish and Jones, Penn Cambria finished with 411 yards on 42 carries.
Grassi: “We have improved. We have gotten better and better. We have played as a team, and I’m so happy and proud of these kids right now.”
Forest Hills coach Justin Myers: “They came out and were more physical. They were able to run the ball down the field, and they were the better team. That was the difference. The first time we played them, it was 2-0 and we were winning after the first quarter. This time, we fell behind 21-0. That’s a big difference. You can’t fall behind to a team like this and think you can come back.”
Myers on his seniors: “These seniors are amazing. I have coached these seniors since they were kindergarteners and first graders in other sports. I can’t say enough about them. They are amazing men.”
Jones: “We love proving people wrong. These past four years, it feels like we have been disrespected every year. We just keep coming out every year and showing people what we can do.”
Notable: Gavin Gray and Evan Latterner had interceptions for Penn Cambria. … Blake Lilly caught a touchdown pass. … Forest Hills’ Jacob Singer’s extra point hit the crossbar, popped straight up, and blew over the bar for a good extra point thanks to the wind. … The Rangers punted against the wind in the first quarter (25, 29 and 23 yards), but with the wind in the second, they went 66 and 49 yards. … Penn Cambria’s seniors finished 23-0 at home in their careers.
Records: Forest Hills (6-5); Penn Cambria (9-2).
Next week: Penn Cambria will play Huntingdon in the District 6 Class 3A championship game on Friday at Mansion Park. Forest Hills’ season is complete.
