Bellefonte knocks off Clearfield

WINGATE — Bellefonte rolled to an early 21-0 lead and held Clearfield off the scoreboard in the final quarter to pull out a 35-21 win in the District 6-9 Class 4A championship game Friday night at Bald Eagle Area High School.

Running back C.J. Funk had 182 yards on 18 carries to lead the Red Raiders and scored the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Clearfield rallied with three unanswered touchdowns after falling behind, including a third quarter, Oliver Billotte 14-yard pass to Nick Domico, which tied the game. Billotte also ran for a score at the end of the first half.

Bellefonte will face District 10’s Cathedral Prep in the first round of the PIAA playoffs next weekend.

Cathedral Prep advanced with a 42-6 victory over University Prep of the Pittsburgh City League on Friday night.

JOHNSTOWN — Richland stayed unbeaten and advanced to the District 6 Class 2A championship with a win over record-setting Aaron Tobias and Penns Valley.

Richland will play the winner of tonight’s Bellwood-Antis and Ligonier Valley game in next week’s final.

Tobias set a new PIAA record with 54 touchdown passes this season. He tied the previous record of 52 in the first quarter and then broke it in the fourth quarter with a 66-yarder to Austin Fisher. He later added another one on a 19-yard pass to Logan Snyder.
