Central Scarlet Dragons boys basketball team begins season by knocking off Bedford

BEDFORD — The Central High School boys basketball team opened its season Friday night with a 63-40 win at Bedford.

The Scarlet Dragons, up 31-22 at halftime, got 20 points from Christian Heuston while teammate Jesse Muthler contributed 15 points.

Bedford, which fell to 0-3, was led by Jonah Topper’s 21 points.

Valley triumphs

ORBISONIA — Ethan Scalia scored 23 points, including 21 on seven 3-pointers, as Juniata Valley beat Mount Union, 74-56, in the opener of the Southern Huntingdon Tournament.

Joel LeCrone added 16 rebounds for the second game in a row as the Hornets improved to 2-0.

Jett Rand added 16 points to go with 12 from Trenton Norris and 11 from Kyler Spurlin in a game it led, 21-8, after one quarter.
