Guilfoyle’s Khoza gets state honor
Cameron Khoza, who helped lead Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic to the PIAA Class 3A semifinals, was named to the third team of the Class 3A Pennsylvania Sports Writers Boys All-State Basketball squad on Wednesday evening.
“He had a great career with us,” Bishop Guilfoyle coach Chris Drenning said. “He’s so versatile and talented, and he played in a lot of big games for us. I’m really happy to hear that he was rewarded for all the effort and work he’s put in.”
Khoza, a 6-foot-7 inch senior with the skills to play guard or forward, averaged 11.2 points per game for the Marauders as they won their first-ever District 6 Class 3A championship after moving up from Class 2A following last season.
Fellow Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference foe Matt Whysong, a junior guard from Chestnut Ridge, also was named to the third team.
Loyalsock Township senior Idris Ali was named the Player of the Year, and his coach, Ron Insinger, was selected as Coach of the Year.
