Carter charged by police

Penn State linebacker Abdul Carter was charged Wednesday with possession of marijuana that police found him with on Aug. 8, WJAC-TV reported. The station reported that Carter admitted to using the pot after police responded to a dormitory fire alarm. Carter is scheduled for a hearing on Oct. 4. PSU coach James Franklin said Wednesday night the matter is being handled internally.

Big Ten football is used to grabbing the spotlight on Saturdays during the fall. However, it is putting a new spin on maximum exposure and going prime time. The Big Ten’s seven-year deal with Fox, CBS and NBC begins this week, marking the first time a college conference sold its rights to three broadcast networks.
