According to multiple reports, Penn State has hired USC defensive coordinator and former Nittany Lion D’Anton Lynn to the same position.
The Centre Daily Times’ Jon Sauber first reported that the team was close to a deal with Lynn.
Lynn spent many years as a secondary coach in the NFL for five different organizations before moving to the college game in 2023. He was the defensive coordinator at UCLA for one season before moving on to USC for the past two years.
As a player, Lynn was an All-Big Ten honorable mention pick three times as a cornerback. He went undrafted, but was signed by the New York Jets and the Canadian Football League’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats for brief stints.
Lynn was a candidate for the Nittany Lions’ defensive coordinator job last year with James Franklin, but turned it down and chose to return to USC. Franklin hired Jim Knowles from Ohio State, and the 2025 season did not go as planned, and Knowles left for Tennessee.
Lynn will still coach USC in the Alamo Bowl this evening against TCU.
