Penn State Altoona senior forward Avana Sayles was chosen as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Player of the Week in women’s basketball.
In the Lions’ 69-49 victory over non-conference opponent Lycoming last week, Sayles notched her third double-double of the season, getting 16 points and 10 rebounds. Sayles also recorded three blocks, two steals, and one assist.
Sayles ranks fifth in points per game with 15.5 and fifth in rebounds per game with 8.5. On defense, Sayles ranks fourth in blocks per game with 1.2 and third in defensive ratings with a rating of 6.3.
This is Sayles’ first AMCC Player of the Week award this season and the fourth of her collegiate career.
Strong time for Tiger grad
Hollidaysburg graduate Abraham Manfred competed this fall on the cross country team at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
At the NAIA Appalachian Challenge in Tennessee, Manfred ran a season-best 8K time of 27:21. The team placed 10th out of 20 teams at the meet and went on to place third in the Sun Conference Championships.
