PSU ice hockey team advances to tourney semis

UNIVERSITY PARK — The Penn State men’s Nittany Lion ice hockey team is moving on to the semifinals.

The Nittany Lions took down Minnesota in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten tournament Wednesday at the Pegula Ice Arena by a score of 6-2.

Penn State is the No. 3 seed in the tournament and will now travel to Michigan to take on the No. 3 seed Wolverines on Friday in the semifinals.

Aiden Fink, Reese Laubach, Mac Gadowsky, Matt DiMarsico, Charlie Cerrato, and Cade Christenson all had goals for Penn State.

Penn State improved its record to 21-12-2 overall. Minnesota finished up its season with a record of 11-22-3.

The Nittany Lions scored two goals in each of the three periods and led 4-1 after two. Minnesota received solo goals from Javon Moore and Jacob Rombach.

Nittany Lion goalie Josh Fleming stopped 27 of 29 shots on the night.

Michigan beat Notre Dame, 4-0, on Wednesday night to advance to the Friday night semifinal game.

The Penn State-Michigan game will begin at 5 p.m. and will be televised live on the Big Ten Network.
