UNIVERSITY PARK -- Penn State's offense had a bounceback week, but the defense did not.

Lions' quarterback Rocco Becht finished 21-of-32 for 289 yards, but the defense was dismantled by USC quarterback Jayden Maiava in a 31-23 loss to the Trojans.

The attendance of 114,419 was a West Shore Home Field at Beaver Stadium record.

Maiava torched the PSU defense for 301 passing yards, going 21 for 33 for the game.

Penn State's run game still didn't get much going with 68 yards on the ground on 31 carries.

Tight end Andrew Rappleyea picked up 83 yards and a touchdown on seven receptions. Chase Showell caught four balls for 95 yards.

Former offensive tackle Levi Brown, who spent seven seasons in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers, was the honorary captain.

Penn State wrestling was honored for its 2025-26 national championship after the first quarter. PSU 165-pounder Mitchell Mesenbrink was also honored as the Hodge Trophy winner last season.

Penn State (3-3 overall, 0-3 Big Ten) is on the road next week at Michigan for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff. The network televising the game will be announced Sunday. The Wolverines were off this weekend.
