UNIVERSITY PARK — The Wisconsin women’s ice hockey team survived Friday night against Penn State in the Frozen Four, as Kristin Simms scored two huge goals to get the Lady Badgers into the title game Sunday.

The game-winning goal for the Lady Badgers (34-4-2) came 50 seconds into the overtime period on a power play that was set up when Penn State’s Kendall Butze was tagged with a boarding penalty. Caroline Harvey got the assist.

The Lady Lions, who led 2-1 at the end of the first period, got two of their three goals from Tessa Janecki and a solo effort from Abby Stonehouse.

Penn State, which was out-shot 35-25, tied the game up on a Janecke goal that came at the 15:01 mark of the third period. Stonehouse scored her goal at the 7:53 mark of the first period to give Penn State a 2-1 advantage.
