Georgia Tech fires Stoudamire

ATLANTA — Georgia Tech fired coach Damon Stoudamire on Sunday, one day after the Yellow Jackets’ season ended with a 12-game losing streak.

Georgia Tech athletic director Ryan Alpert announced the move after the Yellow Jackets finished 11-20 overall and 2-16 in the Atlantic Coast Conference following Saturday’s 79-76 loss at Clemson.

NEC’s Long Island secures automatic bid

The first automatic bid to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament came a little bit early.

Long Island University claimed the Northeast Conference’s berth by beating Wagner in the semifinals of that league tournament Saturday. The Sharks will play in the NEC men’s title game Tuesday night, but their opponent (Mercyhurst) is ineligible for the NCAAs because it is still a reclassifying Division I institution.

Later Saturday, Tennessee State beat Morehead State to win the OVC Tournament for that league’s automatic bid.

Starting at $2.99/week.
