Penn State Lady Lions beat Rutgers, get third Big Ten victory

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — The Penn State women’s basketball team earned an 87-78 win over Rutgers on Saturday afternoon inside Jersey Mikes Arena.
The Lady Lions improved to 10-17, 3-13 in the Big Ten, while the Scarlet Knights fell to 9-18, 1-15 Big Ten.
Sophomore guard Kiyomi McMiller guided Penn State on offense, matching career high 37 points, marking her fifth consecutive 30-point scoring performance. She also posted eight assists, five steals, four rebounds and two blocks. Redshirt junior center Gracie Merkle followed with 26 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the floor. She led the team with six rebounds and dished out four assists.
The Lady Lions produced their best field-goal shooting percentage of the season at 62.0%. PSU also produced 70.0% shooting from 3-point range, its second-best mark of the year.
PSU hosts USC at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Wagner keeps early lead
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Wagner outscored the Saint Francis women’s team by seven in the first quarter and carried that lead throughout the game in a 58-51 victory on Saturday. Shelby Ricks led the Red Flash with 16 points, and Makyiah Ward had 10 rebounds.

PSU Altoona hosts game
ALFRED, N.Y. — The Penn State Altoona women’s basketball team closed its regular season schedule with a 69-54 road win Saturday afternoon, when the Lions defeated Alfred State College in the Orvis Gymnasium.
Penn State Altoona (18-7, 13-3 AMCC) earned the No. 3 seed for the AMCC playoffs and will host No. 6 seed Hilbert at Adler Arena at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the quarterfinals.
No. 5 Mount Aloysius will play at No. 4 Alfred State, also on Tuesday.
PSU Altoona grabbed the lead on Alfred State early in the first quarter and never looked back, going up by as many as 23 points during the second half.
Avana Sayles and Halle Kuzminski both had double-doubles for Penn State Altoona. Sayles collected 15 points and a game-high 19 rebounds. Kuzminski provided 13 rebounds and 12 points.
Lanie Wilt put up a game-high 18 points to go along with five assists, and Jaidyn McCracken had eight points, eight rebounds and five assists.
