Hidden statistic: The Lions converted 11-of-19 third downs.

Best run: Lion tailback Quinton Martin busted a 21-yarder in the first quarter.

Best pass: Clemson QB Cade Klubnik rolled right, then turned and fired a 44-yard completion up the left sideline to T.J. Moore in the second quarter.

Worst pass: On fourth-and-3 from its own 32, on its first possession, Clemson attempted a fake punt with Jack Smith’s pass to Roman Hanafin way off, giving the Nits good field position.

Best catch: Pena made a leaping 14-yard reception in the second quarter.

Catch it, will ya: Devonte Ross dropped a 20-yard post pattern in the second quarter that cost the Lions a first down. He also flubbed a fourth-down flare in the third quarter.

Hold it, won’t ya: Penn State didn’t fumble. Actually, neither team did.

Best block: Cooper Cousins and T.J. Shanahan opened a big hole for a late Martin run that melted the clock on the Lions’ final TD drive.

Best hit: Jaylen Harvey drilled Klubnik for an 8-yard loss in the second quarter.

Worst kick: Hauser missed a 33-yard field goal in the second quarter.

Best call: On third-and-7 from their own 37, following a timeout, Grunkemeyer found Ross over the middle for a 36-yard gain. The play set up the Lions’ 22-10 lead.

Worst call: Fourth-and-4 from the Clemson 28, up 6-3 early in the third quarter, the Nits for some reason passed on a 45-yard field goal for a rushed call that didn’t work.

Worst penalty: An illegal shift on Andrew Rappleyea wiped out a nice reception to Rappleyea in the first quarter.

Best effort: Redshirt freshman safety Vaboue Toure was excellent in run support and led the Nits with seven tackles.

Unsung hero: Martin rushed for 101 yards on 20 carries.

Best moment: At the start of the fourth quarter, the crowd sang Robert Merrill’s “God Bless America,” a Yankee Stadium tradition.
