Lady Lions come up short vs. Ducks

UNIVERSITY PARK — Despite the Lady Lions coming back from a 17-point deficit in the fourth quarter, Oregon came out with a 63-61 win over Penn State on Thursday evening.

The Lady Lions fell to 9-7 overall, 0-5 in the Big Ten while the Ducks improved to 12-4 overall, 3-2 Big Ten.

Indiviudally, Gabby Elliott, Alli Campbell and Talayah Walker produced double-figure scoring outings to lead the Lady Lions.

Elliott scored 26 points, her ninth time scoring in double figures this season and fourth time in a row. She shot 10-of-17 from the field, including four-of-six from 3-point range.

Campbell put up 13 points to go with six boards and four assists. She was coming off a 19-point effort in her previous game.

Walker cracked double-digits with 10 points while also grabbing six rebounds. Gracie Merkle led the team in rebounds with 11 and contributed four points as well.

The teams traded the lead five times over the last few minutes until Merkle tied the score at 61-all with 1:40 to play in the game.

After consecutive missed shots from both teams, the Ducks had the ball in their hands with 4 seconds on the clock when Deja Kelly managed to drain the final shot of the game to take the lead for the final time. She finished with 15 points to lead the winners.

As a team, Penn State exceeded in several categories. The Lady Lions outshot the Ducks from beyond the arc by a 40-18% clip and from the free throw line by a 75-67% margin. Penn State won the rebound battle 38-24.

The Lady Lions are off until a Sunday night game with USC. Tipoff is 8 p.m.
