UNIVERSITY PARK — A run-of-the-mill Penn State home Saturday turned into anything but that just minutes prior to kickoff against Maryland.

Ohio State lost to Michigan, 13-10, in Columbus, Ohio, over 300 miles away from Beaver Stadium, which opened the door for a Big Ten title appearance for the Nittany Lions against Oregon next weekend.

To put it mildly, Penn State took care of its business. Aside from a PSU fumble and a Maryland touchdown pass on the first two plays of the game, the Lions demolished the Terrapins, 44-7, to punch their ticket to Indianapolis next weekend.

Oregon (11-0) will be looking to complete an undefeated regular season later this evening as it hosts Washington.

Drew Allar finished the day with 17-for-26 passing for 171 yards without playing at all in the fourth quarter. The Lions rushed for 219 yards as a team, led by Nicholas Singleton with 87 yards on 13 carries.

Despite the early 7-0 lead for the Terrapins, that’s about as good as it got for the visitors. Penn State scored the next 31 points to take a 31-7 lead at halftime.

PSU kicker Ryan Barker got his team on the board with a 49-yard field goal.

Nicholas Singleton, who fumbled to open the game, redeemed himself with a 2-yard rushing TD to give Penn State its first lead at 10-7 with 12:53 to play in the first half.

Quarterbacks Allar and Beau Pribula both scored TDs on 1-yard runs in the second quarter, while Allar threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Warren to make it 31-7 with under two minutes to play in the first half.

After a scoreless third quarter, Nicholas Singleton got another score, this time from 18 yards out to put it at 38-7.

Tyseer Denmark caught a touchdown from Beau Pribula with no time left to cap it at 44-7.

Kickoff from Indianapolis next Saturday is at 8 p.m. from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Starting at $2.99/week.
