Position: Quarterback
Following is the seventh in a series previewing Penn State's spring practice:
Returning starter(s): The highly-touted Drew Allar will return as Nittany Lion QB in 2024.
Key players lost: Nothing of note, but Bishop Guilfoyle graduate Karson Kiesewetter switched from quarterback and is now listed as a safety on the roster.
Statistically speaking: Allar threw 25 touchdowns and had just two interceptions last season, and didn't throw his first pick until the eighth game against Indiana. He finished the season with 2,631 yards. Backup Beau Pribula also got an ample amount of time, appearing in 11 games and going 11 for 21 for 149 yards and four TDs.
Emerging newcomers: Fans will not get to see third-string QB Jaxon Smolik at the Blue-White Game as he was lost for the spring with an injury. There should be a chance to see true freshman Ethan Grunkemeyer, who was a four-star quarterback out of Ohio.
Analysis: Although a 25:2 TD-to-interception is a very good ratio, there still seemed to be something missing with Allar last season. Perhaps working with new offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki will be a welcomed addition for him. ... Pribula is clearly QB2 on the roster, but it's probably fair to expect some packages featuring him under center.
