Shrewsberry leads Notre Dame

WASHINGTON -- Freshmen Braeden Shrewsberry and Markus Burton combined for 44 points and 12th-seeded Notre Dame opened the ACC Tournament with its third straight nail-biting win over 13th-seeded Georgia Tech 84-80 on Tuesday.

Shrewsberry had 23 points with five 3-pointers and Burton added 21 with eight assists as the Fighting Irish (13-19) advanced to face fifth-seeded Wake Forest despite blowing a 17-point lead in the final 13 minutes.

The winner of today's Notre Dame-Wake Forest game will face Pitt at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.

n Casey Morsell scored 25 points, Jayden Taylor had 18 points, eight rebounds and four steals and No. 10 seed North Carolina State beat No. 15 seed Louisville, 94-85, on Tuesday night in the first round of the ACC Tournament, spoiling a 36-point performance by Skyy Clark. N.C. State (18-14) advances to play No. 7 seed Syracuse in the second round today.

n No. 11 seed Boston College defeated Miami, 81-65, in the opening round of the 2024 ACC Tournament, advancing to play six-seed Clemson in the second round. Quinten Post finished with 30 points to lead all scorers, to go along with a game-high 13 rebounds.

Wagner knocks off Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. -- Tahron Allen scored 22 points and No. 6 seed Wagner allowed only four points in the final eight minutes of a 54-47 victory over Merrimack on Tuesday night in the championship game of the Northeast Conference Tournament.

The Seahawks advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2003.
