DETROIT -- Following are the highlights and lowlights from Penn State's 42-0 victory over Michigan State on Friday night at Ford Field:

Play of the game: Probably not a clear-cut choice so we're going with the intentional grounding call vs. Michigan State that Abdul Carter created with pressure on Alante Brown, who tried a halfback pass. It cost 14 yards and a loss of down after Sparty advanced to the Nits' 25, down 13-0.

Offensive player of the game: Kaytron Allen rushed 15 times for a season-high 137 yards. He also caught three passes for 17 yards and a touchdown.

Defensive player of the game: Adisa Isaac made a team-high seven tackles, including a sack and 1.5 for loss.

Most telling statistic: Penn State outgained Michigan State 568-68, the lowest yardage against the Lions since 1958.

Hidden statistic: Michigan State averaged 1.6 yards per play.

Best run: Allen busted a 50-yard run in the first quarter.

Best pass: Drew Allar connected with Omari Evans on a pretty 60-yard reception in the third quarter to the MSU 1, setting up the Nits' 28-0 lead.

Worst pass: Spartan center J.D. Duplain launched a third-quarter snap over Houser's head for a 21-yard loss.

Best catch: PSU safety Jaylen Reed intercepted Katin Houser at the PSU 9 in the first quarter, ending a Spartans drive.

Catch it, will ya: Malik McClain didn't pull in a catchable pass on the Nits' first possession. Tyler Warren dropped a pass late in the first half.

Hold it, won't ya: Penn State didn't fumble.

Best block: Olu Fashanu paved Allen's early run with a big lane.

Best tackle: Leading 3-0 in the second quarter, Curtis Jacobs sacked Houser on third down, forcing a punt.

Best hit: Nit defensive tackle Hakeem Beamon blasted Houser in the third quarter, forcing an incompletion.

Best kick: Alex Felkins nailed a 49-yard field goal to open the scoring.

Worst kick: Right after his 49-yarder, Felkins doinked a 40-yarder off the right crossbar.

Best call: Using Beau Pribula to throw an 8-yard TD to Warren in the third quarter to make it 21-0.

Worst call: On third-and-7 from the MSU 29, leading 3-0 in the first quarter, the Lions' co-coordinators ran Nick Singleton for 2 yards. No pass there?

Worst penalty: Up 3-0, the Lions moved to a first down at the Spartans' 28 ... when Warren false-started, leading to a missed field goal.

Best effort: Michigan State's punter, Ryan Eckley, was incredible, averaging 54 yards on nine punts.

Unsung hero: Lion tight end Theo Johnson caught four passes for 59 yards and a TD.
