Notables: Tonight will be the first-ever meeting between the programs. Santa Clara enters tonight coming off its season-opening win, 77-69, over Utah Tech on Wednesday. David Elliot led the Broncos with 24 points while Aric Demings added 17 points. ... Saint Francis started 0-2 in each of the three seasons it advanced to the NEC Championship game under coach Rob Krimmel (2016-17, 2018-19 and 2019-20). The program also participated in the NEC Semifinals in 2014-15 and went on to postseason tournaments three times in that span: CIT (2014-15, 2016-17, 2017-18) and NIT (2019-20).

Lady Lions cruise past Navy

UNIVERSITY PARK -- The Penn State women's basketball team cruised to another 40-plus point victory margin with a dominant 107-44 win over Navy Friday night.

Redshirt junior Leilani Kapinus paced the Lady Lions (2-0) on both sides of the ball, logging a career-high 24 points to go along with nine rebounds and four assists. Senior guard Makenna Marisa broke the 1,800-point mark, bringing her career total to 1,815. She finished with 16 points.

Kapinus opened the scoring with a layup after the opening tip. Navy responded with two back-to-back 3s to get off to and early lead. The Midshipmen extended their lead to 9-4 before Kapinus came back with five points to tie it at nines.

The Lady Lions took off from there and found themselves up 33-14 after one quarter.

Marisa's block on a Midshipmen shot sent them to inbound the ball with just a few seconds on the clock and Kapinus blocked the last second shot to give the Lions the ball back. Penn State extended its lead to 20-14 at one point just under five minutes to play in the quarter.

Murray then picked up a steal on a Navy offensive drive which sparked the team toward a big first-quarter lead.

PSU welcomes Kansas to the Jordan Center Monday for a 6 p.m. tipoff on the Big Ten Network.

PSU Altoona men win opener

TIFFIN, Ohio -- The Penn State Altoona men's basketball team overcame a double-digit deficit in the second half of its season opener on Friday night, getting past Adrian College, 71-67, at the Ron Linhart Memorial Tournament.

The Lions will play in the tournament's championship game Saturday at 7 p.m. against either Bluffton University or host Heidelberg.

Justin Sheetz scored a team-high 15 points for Penn State Altoona. Dwayne Jones finished with 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for the double-double, and he also blocked a game-high three shots.

Kaden Claar added 11 points and nabbed a pair of steals, and Jahmar White contributed 11 points off the bench while dishing out three assists.
