Penn State overpowers Delaware early, cruises to 63-7 victory

UNIVERSITY PARK — This game was over at halftime.
Penn State rolled up a 35-7 advantage in the first half and coasted to a 63-7 victory over Delaware on a warm Saturday afternoon before 108,575 at Beaver Stadium.
The Hens were limited to 84 yards on six possessions before halftime, and 66 of those came on a touchdown run by Marcus Yarns that cut the Nittany Lions' lead to 14-7.
No. 7 Penn State, now 2-0, rolled up 20 first downs to Delaware's two in the first two quarters and finished with an advantage of 33-5.
The Lions enjoyed a total offense edge of 541-140 and rushed for 315 yards.
Quarterback Drew Allar was once again sharp, completing 22-of-26 for 204 yards and a touchdown. Allar was not intercepted.
He was replaced after one series in the third quarter by backup Beau Pribula, who threw a late touchdown.
Tight end Tyler Warren caught six passes for 37 yards and a touchdown. KeAndre Lambert-Smith also made six catches for 74 yards.
Kaytron Allen led the ground game by rushing for 103 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown.
Linebacker Dom DeLuca returned an interception 26 yards for a touchdown that extended the Lions' lead to 56-7 late in the third quarter.
The Lions open Big Ten play next Saturday at Illinois (1-1). Kickoff is noon with TV to be determined. The Illini suffered a 34-23 loss to Kansas on Friday night, a game in which the Jayhawks led 34-7.
Delaware (1-1) hosts Saint Francis next week. Kickoff is 6 p.m.
