UNIVERSITY PARK, - The Penn State men's basketball team defeated Loyola (Md.), 90-65, Thursday night at the Jordan Center to improve to 2-0.
Coming off 18 made three-pointers in Monday's win, the Nittany Lions drained 16 threes Thursday on 53.3 percent shooting from behind the arc. Myles Dread led the way with his second straight game with four 3-pointers made.
Camren Wynter topped Penn State with 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting, including three treys of his own. His fourth rebound in the contest gave him 500 for his career, which made him one of three active players with 1,500 career points, 500 career assists, and 500 career rebounds, joining teammate Jalen Pickett on the prestigious list.
Jalen Pickett dished out 11 assists for the Nittany Lions, who finished with 21 total assists.
The Nittany Lions began the game on an 14-4 run that included 3-pointers from Wynter, Andrew Funk, Seth Lundy, and Dallion Johnson.
Kebba Njie picked up four quick points, giving the Nittany Lions an 18-8 lead. A Pickett three was Penn State's only points in the next 4:29 as its lead was down to just two.
Dread broke the drought, nailing his first three of the game to put Penn State up 24-19 with a little under eight minutes to play en route to a 40-29 halftime lead.
GAME NOTES
Camren Wynter became just one of three active Division I players with 1,500 points, 500 assists, and 500 rebounds, joining teammate Jalen Pickett on the list. Wynter snagged his 500th career rebound with 9:05 left in the game and joins the prestigious list with 1,684 points, 583 assists, and 500 rebounds.
The Nittany Lions hit 16 3-pointers tonight, surpassing 15 made threes two games in a row for the first time in program history.
With 90 points in the game tonight, the Nittany Lions have scored 90 or more in two consecutive games for the first time since December 21 and 27 of 2016 when they put up 92 and 96 points against St. Johns and Morgan State, respectively.
Penn State went 19-of-27 (70.4%) from the floor in the second half, marking the first time the Nittany Lions have shot over 70 percent in one half since January 5, 2018 against Northwestern when they shot 17-24 (70.8%).
The Nittany Lions shot over 50 percent from 3-point land (53.3%) for the first time since Feb. 17, 2022 against Minnesota (50%).
The Nittany Lions recorded their second straight 20-plus assist game, recording 21 tonight.
Penn State grabbed 33 boards in the game, its second straight 30-plus rebound game.
