Porter headlines Big Ten selections

2 min read

From Mirror reports

Penn State cornerback Joey Porter was named first team all-Big Ten, on both the coaches and media ballots released by the conference on Tuesday.

Porter recorded 20 pass breakups, including a PSU and Big Ten record six in the Nittany Lions' season opener at Purdue. He is a 6-foot-2, 194-pounder junior.

Joining Porter as All-Big Ten selections were freshman linebacker Abdul Carter (second team), defensive tackle PJ Mustipher (second team), kick returner Nicholas Singleton (second team), safety Ji'Ayir Brown (third team), defensive end Adisa Isaac (third team), cornerback Kalen King (third team), punter Barney Amor (honorable mention), corner Johnny Dixon (honorable mention), linebacker Curtis Jacobs (honorable mention), kicker Jake Pinegar (honorable mention), defensive end Chop Robinson (honorable mention) and defensive end Nick Tarburton (honorable mention).

Long snapper Chris Stoll was honored with the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.

The offensive awards will be announced today.

Veilleux leaving

Christian Veilleux, the Nittany Lions' third-string quarterback, has entered the transfer portal.

"Being at Penn State has been nothing but a blessing," Veilleux said on Twitter. "I want to thank my teammates, coaches and staff for memories that I'll cherish forever."

The move comes as no surprise as Veilleux fell behind true freshman Drew Allar on the depth chart at the start of the season.

Veilleux, a product of Canada, appeared in three games and completed 6-of-7 passes for 37 yards.

As a freshman last year, he stepped in for a sick Sean Clifford and went 15-for-24 for 235 yards and threw three touchdown passes in a win over Rutgers.

James Franklin hinted a couple weeks ago that a decision was coming.

"That whole quarterback room has been great," he said. "Those are tough conversations and tough decisions that have to be made."

I hope he (Veilleux) stays at Penn State and continues to chase his dream. Part of my heart breaks that we have to have these conversations."
