Lock Haven at Penn State
When: Tonight, 7 p.m., Rec Hall, State College
Records: Lock Haven (0-0, 0-0 MAC); Penn State (0-0, 0-0 Big Ten)
TV: Big Ten+
Notable: It looks like the 125-pound class will still be a question mark for Penn State. Head coach Cael Sanderson announced earlier this week that projected starter Robbie Howard is likely out for the season, and redshirt freshman Gary Steen will be the starter for the time being. Steen will have a tough match in his dual meet debut against Lock Haven's 13th-ranked Anthony Noto. … Along with Noto, the Eagles also have one more wrestler ranked in Ashton Eyler, who is 20th at 157 pounds. … It will also be a first look for fans at Rec Hall for PSU's Shayne Van Ness (149). …. Beau Bartlett has dropped down to 141 pounds this season, which is a more natural weight for him. Bartlett competed at 149 pounds last year while Nick Lee manned 141 and netted his second national championship. …Roman Bravo-Young (133), Carter Starocci (174), Aaron Brooks (184), and Max Dean (197) are all returning national champions and start the season ranked No. 1 at their respective weights by InterMat. Greg Kerkvliet is ranked second at 285 pounds. … Lock Haven sent a handful of wrestlers to the Princeton Open last weekend, with Gabe Strickland winning the title at 133 pounds. Penn State will also send wrestlers to the Binghamton Open this weekend.
