Sorting through the blue and white mailbag:
Hi, Neil:
Your comments to two letters made me laugh.
The guy from Sullivan County with the antenna and your aluminum foil comment made me think about my grandfather adding foil to his radio antenna trying to dial in his beloved Cleveland Indians games at night in his pantry in Windber.
I actually did that to a radio (I will replace it with a Google wireless speaker next summer) to try and get a better signal on our back patio. My wife was taken aback by those efforts until I told her about Gramps' old trick.
Funny thing -- it worked!
Next was the guy from Boalsburg to whom you indicated your fondness for Duffy's Tavern. It's my wife's favorite bar up in the State College area.

Hi, Greg:
We had a black and white TV until the 1969 Orange Bowl when my dad broke down.
Hi, Neil:
If I recall, Rocco finally attempted a decent north-south pass with 2:30 in the game at Michigan.
This has been lacking.
Our receivers are good, so get a strategy. You can't win by just throwing laterals and 5-yarders.
Joe Kerestan, Duncansville
Hi, Joe:
I'll pass this on to Taylor Mouser.
Neil:
Our season is shot. Becht should be benched even if Campbell thinks he's the best chance to win now.
Let's see if Manske is the future, and let him develop with Koby Howard so that Howard doesn't move on at season's end.
Rob Eisman, Potomac, Md.
Rob:
Welcome to today's college football reality.
Neil:
Rough day for the Big 12.
Penn State's Big 12 team loses in the Big House. Then the Big 12 officiating crew in Provo not only blew a clear defensive pass interference against BYU at the end of the game but missed the end of the game as well as there was still a second left.
Bill Camberg, Altoona
P.S. I'm rooting for Matt Campbell to succeed, but wouldn't it have been fun
to watch that BYU offense at Beaver Stadium?
Bill:
As long as Notre Dame puts up a good showing against Miami, I'd say they'll still be in the 12-team field.
Neil:
Again, I question the extent of our strength and conditioning. The Wisconsin game was one more, in a string of, fourth-quarter failures in our defense.
These guys look worn out.
James Fath, Wilmington, Del.
James:
Fair point.
Of the Nits' 24 fourth-quarter points in Big Ten games, two TDs (or 14 points) have come with the game decided.
Good evening, Neil:
There were multiple areas of bleeding on both sides of the ball. The prognosis for the rest of the year could likely be grim.
And there appears to be no imminent cure for this hybrid transfer portal made team.
Joe Bering Jr., Montoursville
Good evening, Joe:
You sound like a doctor.
Neil:
I was pleased Penn State took your suggestion and showed each of the members of the 1986 team during the Buffalo game.
Paul McConnaughey, State College
Paul:
For the past few years, they've resorted to a group wave from legendary unbeaten teams of 1973 and 1994.
It wasn't just me who advocated for more team recognition, but I'm glad the light bulb went off.
Neil:
As I was reading your mailbag with the references to Hank Kimball, the hilarious and absent-minded County Extension agent, I got an email alert from the State College Regional airport advising that a large plane would be arriving. It was carrying the Wisconsin football team.
Reminded me of one of the Green Acres episodes where everybody went to Pixley to see the landing of an airplane. Apparently, the Hooterville runway was not long enough.
Perhaps you could run that by James Franklin.
Greg Guise, Ferguson Township
Gregg:
James vacated his seat on the Centre County Airport Authority and is now coordinating flights in Blacksburg,Virginia.
