PSU headed for Pinstripe Bowl; opponent TBD

From Mirror reports

College football’s bowl selection day is Sunday, but Penn State’s assignment has already been reported.

According to Brent McMurphy, who covers the Big Ten for On3.com, the Nittany Lions (6-6) are confirmed to play in the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium in New York on Saturday, Dec. 27, against a team from the ACC.

Possible opponents include Clemson, Louisville, Duke and longtime PSU rival Pitt, McMurphy reported, and will be determined Sunday.

Penn State played in the 2014 Pinstripe Bowl, defeating Boston College, 31-30, to close out James Franklin’s first season.

In addition, McMurphy reported the Big Ten’s other teams in non-New Year’s Six games:

Michigan in Citrus vs. SEC

Iowa in ReliaQuest vs. SEC

Nebraska in Las Vegas vs. former Pac-12

Illinois in Music City vs. SEC

USC in Alamo vs. Big 12

Franklin was fired on Oct. 12, and Iowa State coach Matt Campbell was hired on Friday to replace him.

PSU interim coach Terry Smith has been retained by Campbell to be the Lions’ associate head coach (Smith is signing a four-year contract) and will be in charge of the Nittany Lions in the bowl game.

The Pinstripe Bowl is a noon start and will be televised by ABC.

Starting at $2.99/week.
