Penn State Nittany Lions don’t lose match in wrestling duals

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Penn State Nittany Lions improved to 6-0 by earning two shutouts in the 2025 Journeymen Collegiate Duals on Saturday.

Penn State blanked North Dakota State, 46-0, before crushing Stanford, 42-0.

Against Stanford, Nittany Lion sophomore Luke Lilledahl, ranked No. 2 at 125, earned a 4-2 win over No. 12 Nicco Provo. True freshman Marcus Blaze, ranked No. 10 at 133, worked up a 16-2 lead on No. 6 Tyler Knox before pinning the Cardinal All-American at the 6:44 mark.

True freshman Nate Desmond, again wrestling up at 141, dominated Lain Lapoujian as he rolled to a 9-0 major decision with 3:34 in riding time. Junior Shayne Van Ness, ranked No. 1 at 149, used three takedowns to post a 10-4 win over No. 14 Aden Valencia.

True freshman PJ Duke, ranked No. 8 at 157, notched the only takedown of the bout in a 5-2 win over No. 5 Danield Cardenas.

Junior Mitchell Mesenbrink, ranked No. 1 at 165, picked up four takedowns before pinning EJ Parco in the second period, getting the fall at 4:23 to put Penn State up 25-0. Senior Levi Haines, ranked No. 1 at 174, used three takedowns and forced three stall warnings in a 14-4 major decision win over Lorenzo Norman. Sophomore Rocco Welsh, ranked No. 4 at 184, followed that up with a 5-1 win over Abraham Wojcikiewicz.

Returning national finalist Josh Barr rolled up five takedowns and a turn to roll to a 19-3 tech fall over No. 19 Angelo Posada at the 4:13 mark.

Redshirt freshman Cole Mirasola, ranked No. 13 at 285, put on an offensive clinic against Luke Duthie in the dual’s final bout. Mirasola tallied seven takedowns in the opening period to post a 21-6 tech fall at the 2:59 mark.

Penn State set a new NCAA Division I dual meet win streak record with the victory, having won its 77th-straight. The old mark was 76 set by Oklahoma St. from 1937 to 1951.

In the win over North Dakota State, Lilledahl used 1:26 in riding time to grab a hard fought 6-5 win over No. 31 Ezekial Witt. Blaze forced four stall warnings as he rolled to an 11-3 major decision over No. 29 Tristan Daugherty.

Desmond, used a late takedown to grab a 4-1 win over Bison Michael Olsen. Van Ness used four takedowns and two turns to roll to a 19-2 tech fall over No. 24 Max Petersen at 5:16. Duke then tallied five takedowns in a 16-5 major decision over No. 21 Gavin Drexler.

Mesenbrink used two takedowns and four nearfall turns to roll to an 18-1 tech fall at the 3:45 mark. Haines followed up with the dual’s first fall, pinning Tyler Secoy in the first period at 1:38. Welsh continued Penn State’s bonus point barrage with a 19-4 tech fall over Andrew McMongagle at the 6:17 mark in the third period.

Barr made his season debut at 197 and put on an offensive show. Barr picked up five takedowns in just over a period to roll to a 19-3 technical fall over Devin Wasley at the 3:20 mark. Cole Mirasola finished off the dual with Penn State’s second first period fall. Mirasola notched two quick takedowns and pinned Drew Blackburn-Forst on the second just :33 into the bout.
