UNIVERSITY PARK — Following are the highlights and lowlights from Penn State’s 37-10 victory over Nebraska on Saturday night at Beaver Stadium:
Play of the game: On fourth-and-1 from the PSU 2, on the Cornhuskers’ first series, Zane Durant slammed Emmett Johnson short of a first down, forcing a change of possession and setting the tone.
Offensive player of the game: Kaytron Allen rushed 25 times for 160 yards and two touchdowns and broke Penn State’s career rushing record in the process, surpassing Evan Royster (3,932). Allen now has 3,954 yards.
Defensive player of the game: Amare Campbell recorded six tackles and an early tackle for loss.
Most telling statistic: Penn State’s running backs Allen and Nick Singleton averaged 6.3 yards on 32 carries.
Most deceiving statistic: PSU dominated despite running only 51 plays — 18 fewer than Cornhuskers.
Hidden statistic: PSU quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer averaged 16 yards on 11 receptions.
Best run: Allen cut outside and zipped 51 yards up the left sideline to the Nebraska 4 on the Lions’ first scoring drive.
Best pass: Grunkemeyer found Koby Howard over the middle early for a 31-yard gain in the first quarter.
Best catch: Nebraska’s Dane Key made a juggling catch late in the third quarter, leading to the Cornhuskers’ first TD.
Catch it, will ya: The Lions had no drops.
Hold it, won’t ya: Penn State didn’t fumble.
Best block: PSU tight end Khalil Dinkins sealed the edge for Allen’s early run.
Best tackle: Kenny Woseley dumped Mekhi Nelson on a second-quarter kickoff return, pinning the Huskers at their own 10.
Best hit: Audavion Collins rattled Nebraska QB TJ Lateef in the third quarter.
Best kick: Gabe Nwosu unloaded a 49-yard punt in the fourth quarter.
Worst kick: Ryan Barker missed an extra point — the first of the season after 37 straight — keeping the Lions’ lead at 23-3.
Best call: The Lions sprung Luke Reynolds for 26 yards on a fourth-quarter fake punt.
Worst call: Game didn’t get to this point.
Worst penalty: Nebraska punter Archie Wilson was hit with a needless personal foul out of bounds, adding 14 yards after Trebor Pena’s 21-yard return. The Lions used the miscue to go up 23-3.
Best effort: Penn State’s offensive line allowed just one sack and escorted the ground game.
Unsung hero: Pena made four catches and sprung a 21-yard punt return.
