UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State sophomore Charlie Cerrato was named the Big Ten Hockey First Star of the Week following a six-point outburst in a weekend sweep at No. 14 Arizona State.
This marks the first career weekly accolade for Cerrato.
Cerrato factored in on six of Penn State’s 10 goals over the weekend scoring a pair of goals while adding four assists with a plus-4 rating. His six points on the weekend were good for second in the nation over the two games.
The sophomore collected a pair of goals to go along with three assists, including the primary assist on the game-tying and game-winning goals in the third period of Friday’s 6-3 victory. His five points on Friday were a new career-best and tied a Nittany Lion single-game record.
Cerrato then added the secondary assist on the game-tying goal on Saturday night. Going back to last season, Cerrato has now registered at least one point in 10 of his last 11 games with multi-point efforts in seven of those.
