DAYTON, Ohio -- The Penn State men's basketball team dropped a 78-62 exhibition game at Dayton Sunday afternoon at UD Arena.
The charity exhibition game was held in support of adolescent and young adult mental health and suicide prevention. The exhibition game does not count toward official records or statistics.
The Nittany Lions were down five at the half, but couldn't get their offense going in the second half. Penn State finished the game shooting 39.3 percent from the field compared to Dayton's 48.4.
Freshman Kayden Mingo and redshirt junior Freddie Dilione V led the Nittany Lions with 16 points apiece. Mingo dished out a team-high four assists. Senior Josh Reed and freshman Ivan Juric pulled down a team-leading six rebounds each.
Minor leads Pitt
PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt men's basketball team overcame a 12-point first-half deficit to defeat Providence, 81-74, in exhibition play Sunday afternoon at the Petersen Events Center.
The Panthers had five players score in double figures, led by Damarco Minor's team-high 15 points, as Pitt extended its exhibition win streak to 42 games.
Minor was 4-of-8 shooting from the field and 6-of-7 from the foul line while adding three rebounds, three assists and a steal. Brandin Cummings added 12 points and two assists while Cameron Corhen scored 10 points with five rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
Newcomer Nojus Indrusaitis added 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds, and freshman Omari Witherspoon added 10 points on an efficient 5-of-7 shooting from the field.
PSU icers prevail
UNIVERSITY PARK -- Freshman Josh Fleming stopped all 28 shots he faced for his first career shutout as No. 6 Penn State blanked LIU, 3-0, in non-conference men's ice hockey action at Pegula Ice Arena on Saturday night to complete the weekend sweep.
JJ Wiebusch, Charlie Cerrato and Reese Laubach scored for PSU.
