Highlights and lowlights: Drew Allar precise for Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK — Following are the highlights and lowlights from Penn State’s 46-11 victory over Nevada on Saturday at Beaver Stadium:

Play of the game: Drew Allar’s 31-yard touchdown pass to Kyron Hudson gave the Nittany Lions a 27-3 lead with 23 seconds left in the first half.

Offensive player of the game: Allar was 22-of-26 for 217 yards, one TD and no interceptions.

Defensive player of the game: Dani Dennis-Sutton made five tackles, including 2.5 for loss, and forced two fumbles that Penn State recovered.

Most telling statistic: Penn State did not punt.

Most deceiving statistic: The Wolf Pack made six tackles for loss.

Hidden statistic: Nevada’s first two possessions ended in turnovers.

Best run: King Mack’s 73-yard kickoff return in the second quarter.

Best pass: Chubba Purdy gunned a 32-yard completion over the middle to Marcus Bellon late in the third quarter.

Worst pass: Purdy threw an ill-advised pass while under pressure that Zane Durant intercepted and returned to the Nevada 6 in the first quarter.

Best catch: Hudson did a nice job to stay inbounds on a third-quarter sideline snag.

Catch it, will ya: Liam Clifford dropped a fourth-quarter pass from Ethan Grunkemeyer.

Hold it, won’t ya: Allar mishandled a snap that forced the Nits to settle for a field goal and a 10-0 lead.

Best block: Hudson hustled to make two downfield blocks on Mack’s return.

Best tackle: Freshman Daryus Dixson decked Ky Woods on a third-quarter kickoff return.

Best hit: Nevada corner Murvin Kenion III stuck Trevor Pena to stuff a third-quarter screen.

Best kick(s): Ryan Barker was 4-for-4 in short field goals.

Best call: On fourth-and-2, leading 20-3, Allar zinged a 4-yard pass to Devonte Ross, extending a drive that would end in a TD with 23 seconds left in the first half.

Worst call: Lions went for 2 points up 36-3. It didn’t work. Just had to, apparently.

Best effort: Backup tailback Cam Wallace created a wow moment by leaping over a Nevada defender in the fourth quarter.

Best moment: Hollidaysburg’s Ellie Sheehan, the first female drum major in PSU history, nailed her pre-game flip.

Unsung hero: Nick Singleton only had 19 yards rushing but he scored twice and caught four passes for 37 yards. His two TDs make 43 for his career, breaking a tie with Lydell Mitchell (41) behind all-time leader Saquon Barkley (53).
