Interception in double overtime sinks Penn State against Oregon, 30-24

UNIVERSITY PARK — In last season’s Big Ten championship game between Penn State and Oregon, points were handed out like candy with the Ducks leading 31-24 at halftime and ultimately winning the game, 45-37.

Only nine months later, points were at a premium in Saturday’s game, at least in the first half.

The Lions’ lackluster offense woke up in the fourth quarter with 14 points after, at times, was brutal to watch for three quarters.

What turned out to be one of the more brutal offensive performances in recent memory turned out to be an instant classic, but the Lions fell to Oregon in double overtime, 30-24, to drop to 3-1 on the season.

The game had the second-biggest crowd in West Shore Home Field at Beaver stadium history with 111,015 fans in attendance.

The Lions did a lot to even bring it to overtime, but it was still a crushing loss that will sting for at least a few days.

Devonte Ross’ 7-yard score forced overtime in the fourth quarter with 30 seconds left.

In overtime, Kaytron Allen scored from five yards out to force Oregon to score a touchdown. The Ducks’ Jamari Johnson scored on a shovel pass to force the second overtime.

Gary Bryant Jr. scored a touchdown on the first play of the second overtime from Dante Moore. Allar was picked off on the first play of the second overtime.

Drew Allar finished the game 14 for 25 with 137 yards and two touchdowns and the interception that ended it to Oregon’s Dillon Thieneman.
