On the heels of his standout career with the Penn State Altoona men's basketball program, Dwayne Jones signed a one-year contract with Club 5Basket, a professional team based in Gondomar, Portugal.
Jones, a graduate of Johnstown, enjoyed a three-year career with the Penn State Altoona men's basketball team, competing with the Lions from 2022-25 and graduating from the college last May. He was an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference all-conference selection in each of his three seasons and was voted the league's Defensive Player of the Year all three years.
Jones now has the opportunity to extend his basketball playing career at a professional level in Europe with Club 5Basket, a team that competes in the Portuguese Campeonato Nacional 1 Divisao Masculina.
He completed his collegiate career as one of the top players in Penn State Altoona men's basketball history. He finished his time with the Lions ranked in the top 10 of several all-time program records, including being first in team history in defensive rebounds per game (6.1), second in total rebounds (642), defensive rebounds (479), and blocked shots (175), third in field goals made (447) and blocks per game (2.2), steals (128).
He is the second player in Penn State Altoona men's basketball history to secure a professional contract upon graduation, joining former Lion Ishimeal Nance (2016-18) as the only athletes in team history to turn pro.
4-H shooters shine
The Blair County 4-H Sharpshooters competed in the muzzle loader and rifle competitions at the state tournament in Centre County and came home with first-place ribbons in both events.
Helping with the wins were senior team members Joulia Wolf (first place), Alivia Snyder (second place) and Alexis Summer (third place.
"This was the last tournament that these three girls would be able to shoot together. They've come a long way only shooting muzzleloaders for less than a year." Coach Mike Blazier said.
Junior team members who also competed included Jade Dupcavitch, Isaiah Snyder and Alex Wolf, and they came away with a title in their own division.
There were also three air rifle teams competing: two senior teams and one junior team. The junior team took first place while the two senior teams won first and second-place trophies, respectively.
Joulia Wolf was first, followed by Alivia Snyder in second and Summer in fourth.
The second-place team consisted of Dupcavitch (fifth), Alex Wolf (third) and Melody Young (eighth). The junior team that won was made up of Christian Harris, Mileah Reighard and Isaiah Snyder.
Joulia Wolf wound up scoring 274 out of a possible 300, and she would up scoring 990 percent or better on her three position targets.
