PSU gives head coach extension

UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State’s Katie Schumacher-Cawley, a national champion as both a player and a coach with the Nittany Lions volleyball team, has agreed to a contract extension to remain as the head women’s volleyball coach through the 2030 season.
“We are excited to have Katie leading our program for years to come,” Penn State athletic director Pat Kraft said. “She demonstrated remarkable leadership in overcoming challenges this season and served as an outstanding role model for the young women on our team.”
Schumacher-Cawley guided Penn State to its eighth national title in just her third season as the program’s head coach, and in doing so became the first female head coach to lead a team to an NCAA Division I women’s volleyball championship. The Lady Lions went 35-2, won their first Big Ten title since 2017, hosted and won a regional at Rec Hall for the first time since 2017, and went on to beat No. 3 Nebraska and No. 4 Louisville in the semifinal and final rounds to capture the title.
“I am beyond thrilled and deeply honored to be a part of Penn State,” Schumacher-Cawley said.
A two-time All-American at Penn State, Schumacher-Cawley took over the program in 2022 after spending four seasons as an assistant under legendary head coach Russ Rose. She is just the third head coach in the 49-year history of Penn State women’s volleyball.
