Lions lose RB coach to Irish

UNIVERSITY PARK — The movement on Penn State’s coaching staff continues.

Running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider, according to published reports, is leaving the Nittany Lions to become the RBs coach at Notre Dame.

Seider, who spent the last seven seasons at PSU, was also the Lions’ assistant head coach and co-offensive coordinator.

Seider helped develop running backs Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen into one of the nation’s best backfields. Each has committed to returning to Penn State for the 2025 season.

Notre Dame returns standout running back Jeremiyah Love, among others, and the Irish and Nittany Lions are vying for a couple of the same recruits.

James Franklin has long worked to keep his assistants from moving to lateral positions, and this is the second time that’s happened in the last month, at least in terms of staff titles.

Defensive coordinator Tom Allen left PSU after one season to become the DC at Clemson, which paved the way for Penn State to hire Ohio State’s Jim Knowles at $3.1 million annually (the highest paid assistant coach in the country).

Greg Gattuso, a former Nittany Lion defensive tackle who played on the 1982 national championship team, is joining PSU as a defensive line consultant.

Gattuso spent the last 11 years as Albany’s head coach and prior was the head coach at Duquesne.

Franklin is scheduled to meet the media today for the first time since the Lions’ season ended in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 9.
