Two former Penn State football players are being charged with rape and other sex crimes, according to a report in the Centre Daily Times.
Jameial J. Lyons Jr., 19, of Philadelphia, and Kaveion A. Keys, 19, of Virginia were charged on Tuesday with felony counts of rape and aggravated indecent assault for an assault that took place in an on-campus residence hall on July 7.
Lyons, a defensive end, and Keys, a linebacker, were placed on interim suspension from the football program in July and then dismissed from the team and the university in August.
In a statement released Tuesday, Penn State told the CDT and Onward State: "We are aware of the serious charges against Mr. Keys and Mr. Lyons, who are no longer enrolled at the University. The safety of our community is our top priority, and Penn State takes any report of sexual assault or misconduct very seriously and investigates any and all reports."
Lyons recorded one sack as a true freshman last season. Keys redshirted as a true freshman and did not play.
