Lions add big man in portal
UNIVERSITY PARK -- Penn State men's basketball head coach Mike Rhoades announced the addition of 6-foot-8 forward and Xavier transfer Kachi Nzeh to the Nittany Lion program Tuesday.
Nzeh, a Philadelphia native from Upper Darby, joins Penn State with three seasons of eligibility remaining.
"He is a great fit for what we want to do on both ends of the court and his versatility and physicality will make him a great addition to our team. We're excited to bring Kachi back home to his home state of Pennsylvania and can't wait to get to work," Rhoades said.
Nzeh appeared in 19 games while making four starts during his true freshman season at Xavier. He averaged 2.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in 9.8 minutes per game during the 2023-24 slate while shooting 60 percent from the field. His rookie campaign with the Musketeers was highlighted by a 13-point, six-rebound performance at Georgetown in which he shot 5-for-5 from the field.
Nzeh was rated as the No. 2 player in the state of Pennsylvania by 247Sports coming out of high school at George School under coach Ben Luber.
He earned Philadelphia Sports Digest Non-PIAA Player of the Year honors and Philadelphia Sports Digest Non-PIAA first-team accolades as a senior after averaging 17.6 points and 10.7 rebounds per game.
Nzeh also earned first-team All-State and first-team All-League honors during his junior season after averaging 20 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks per game. George School went 40-14 during his time in school.
