UNIVERSITY PARK -- Penn State men's basketball head coach Mike Rhoades announced the addition of Tennessee transfer guard Freddie Dilione V to the Nittany Lion program Thursday.
Dilione, a former top-50 recruit, joins Penn State with three seasons of eligibility remaining.
A 6-foot-5 guard out of North Carolina, Dilione spent a year and a half with the Vols, enrolling early in January 2023 and redshirting the remainder of the 2022-23 season before playing his redshirt freshman season in 2023-24.
"Our relationship with Freddie and his family goes back several years and we're beyond excited to have him join us at Penn State," Rhoades said. "Freddie is a very talented and versatile guard who will thrive in our up-tempo style of play."
He played in 18 games for a Tennessee team that reached the Elite Eight during his redshirt freshman campaign in 2023-24, including appearances in three of the Vols' four NCAA Tournament games. Dilione tallied seven points, three rebounds and three assists in his collegiate debut against Tennessee Tech and finished with five points against both Alabama and Georgia Southern.
Dilione was a top-50 prospect out of high school at Word of God Christian Academy. He was rated the No. 41 overall prospect in the Class of 2023, reaching as high as No. 24, by 247Sports and also was the top-rated prospect in the state of North Carolina per the 247Sports composite.
Dilione averaged 25.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.9 assists per game during his breakout senior season.
Lady Lion promotion
UNIVERSITY PARK -- Penn State women's basketball coach Carolyn Kieger announced a promotion within her staff on Thursday, promoting former Lady Lion player Terri Williams from assistant coach to the associate head coach.
"She has been an integral part of our growth as a program. She leads with passion and empowers our young women to soar to new heights on and off the court. Her love for her Alma Mater runs deep and we are excited to continue our pursuit of excellence," Kieger said.
Williams was a four-year letterwinner for Penn State women's basketball from 1988-91. Upon graduating, she departed Happy Valley and served as an assistant coach for 12 years at various different institutions, including Georgetown, Georgia, Auburn and Southwest Missouri State.
Williams landed her first head coaching job at Georgetown where she was head of the program from 2004-12 after her role as an assistant in years prior. She posted a record of 143-104 with NCAA Tournament appearances.
In 2022, Williams returned to Happy Valley as an assistant coach for Kieger where she led the defense.
