Penn State added a significant player out of the transfer portal on Wednesday as former Ohio State wideout Julian Fleming announced he is coming to State College.
Fleming was never the No.1 wide receiver with the Buckeyes as Marvin Harrison Jr. was the easy target most of the time, but he did have a solid career at Ohio State with 79 receptions for 963 yards and one touchdown in four seasons of work. He will have the 2024 season as his only remaining year of eligibility.
The recruitment of Fleming to Penn State was hardly a surprise. He's an alumnus of football powerhouse Southern Columbia, which is just a 90-mile trip from State College. He also recently posted on Instagram a new vehicle from Blaise Alexander, a major advertiser with Penn State athletics.
Although the Lions got a big-time addition in Fleming, there was also a subtraction of another wide receiver as Dante Cephas announced he is entering the transfer portal.
Cephas did not appear in the Peach Bowl against Mississippi, and his playing time decreased as the season progressed.
He appeared in 12 of the Nittany Lions 13 games this season, hauling in 22 passes for 246 yards and two touchdowns.
Prior to Penn State, Cephas spent four seasons at Kent State where he was a first-team All-MAC selection in 2021 and 2022. He will also have one season of eligibility remaining. He is a graduate of Penn Hills High School in Pittsburgh.
In other team news, Dvon Ellies announced on X that he is returning to Penn State for his final year of eligibility. Ellies is a defensive tackle.
