UNIVERSITY PARK -- Penn State offensive tackle Olumuyiwa Fashanu was named a first-team All-American by The Sporting News on Wednesday.
Fashanu picked up his third first-team All-American honor by an NCAA-recognized outlet, joining first team honors from the Associated Press and the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
He was also tabbed a second-team All-American by the Football Writers Association of America.
With his third first-team honor from one of the five NCAA-recognized outlets (Associated Press, AFCA, FWAA, Sporting News, Walter Camp), Fashanu clinched a spot as a consensus All-American.
Fashanu is Penn State's 41st player to earn consensus All-American status (44 overall selections) and the fourth player in the James Franklin era, joining Micah Parsons (2019), Saquon Barkley (2017) and Carl Nassib (2015).
He is Penn State's first offensive lineman to garner consensus All-American status since Jeff Hartings in 1995.
The junior is Penn State's 102nd first-team All-American in school history and its first, first-team selection since linebacker Micah Parsons in 2019. He is one of Penn State's 16 All-American selections in the James Franklin era.
Fashanu is Penn State's first offensive lineman to earn multiple first-team All-American nods from NCAA-recognized outlets since A.Q. Shipley (FWAA, Walter Camp) in 2008 and the first offensive lineman to collect All-America honors from multiple NCAA-recognized outlets since Stefan Wisniewski in 2010.
