UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State tight end Theo Johnson has been charged with two misdemeanors in connection with a Feb. 11 incident at a State College fraternity.
According to the Centre Daily Times, Johnson was charged Wednesday with simple assault and criminal mischief, both misdemeanors, for punching a man in the face after being asked to leave the frat party because he didn't have a wristband.
Johnson, 22, faces a preliminary hearing on May 24. Penn State issued a statement Wednesday saying the matter is being addressed.
"We are aware of the charges against Theo Johnson," the statement read. "These alleged actions do not reflect the values and standards of our program and will be addressed. Johnson's punch broke a man's sunglasses, valued at $560, and caused hospital treatment for a concussion.
Johnson caught 20 passes for 328 yards and four touchdowns last season.
He is expected to challenge for the Nittany Lions' starting tight end position this fall with Tyler Warren.
