UNIVERSITY PARK --The No. 3 Penn State men's volleyball team is the EIVA Tournament champion thanks to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-22) sweep over No. 15 Princeton on Saturday night at Rec Hall.
The Nittany Lions are headed to the National Collegiate Championship Tournament as the conference's automatic qualifier.
Penn State improved to 26-3. The Lions won the EIVA Tournament for the 35th time since the inaugural event in 1971.
Cal Fisher was named the MVP of the tournament. He was joined on the all-tournament team by teammates Brett Wildman, Cole Bogner, and Michal Kowal.
Fisher led all players with 12 kills in the win over Princeton and added two aces, five digs, and three blocks. Wildman tallied eight kills, four digs, and one ace. Bogner, who joins Fisher and Wildman as senior captains, led the team to .324 hitting with his 25 assists and also contributed a team-high six digs. Kowal finished with six kills, while Sam Marsh had three on his four swings.
Ryan Merk had five digs and chipped in with four assists. He helped hold Princeton to .054 hitting.
Penn State will play in the NC Championship Tournament in Fairfax, Va. The Nittany Lions will play the winner of Ohio State and King on Tuesday, May 2. The winner of that will advance to the semifinals.
