Penn State made its first roster addition under new head coach Mike Rhoades on Sunday, and it’s a player who is already familiar with Rhoades’ system.

Reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Year Adrian “Ace” Baldwin Jr. announced his decision to transfer to the Nittany Lions from VCU on Twitter Sunday to follow his former head coach into the Big Ten.

Baldwin was a three-year starter at VCU but still has two years of eligibility remaining.

“VCU Ramily Iloveuuu 5life hardest decision in my life,” Baldwin tweeted after announcing he was committed to Penn State. He also wished VCU the best and said he will not forget his memories there that included leading the Rams to the NCAA Tournament and an Atlantic 10 title this past year.

Baldwin scored a team-high 16 points and had seven assists for VCU in its 68-56 win over Dayton in the championship game that earned VCU a No. 12 seed. The Rams lost to Saint Mary’s, 63-51, in the first round.

The Baltimore native was a four-star recruit and averaged 12.7 points and 5.8 assists per game last season.

Baldwin, a 6-foot-1 inch point guard, was also named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year last season and was among the nation’s leaders in steals as a sophomore. He is just the fourth player in the history of the Atlantic 10 to be named both the league’s Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season.

Starting at $2.99/week.
