PSU football recruiting
Brenton Strange
Position: Tight end
Recruiting class (size): 2019 (17 players)
Hometown/School: Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg
Height/Weight: 6-5/210
Stars: 4 (247); 4 (Rivals)
Other top offers: Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, West Virginia, Ole Miss, Maryland, North Carolina, Purdue, Wake Forest, Louisville
Notable: Rated the nation’s No. 8 tight end by Rivals and No. 16 by 247Sports; he was on hand for the whiteout game Saturday against the Buckeyes and is the first player to commit following that; he had just visited Ohio State last week for its home game against Tulane.
Scouting report: Strange is a good receiving tight end and, as you can see from his offer list above, was highly sought after by several power programs. Penn State lost star Mike Gesicki after last season, but true freshman Pat Freiermuth has quickly emerged as the go-to tight end. The addition of Strange next year will give the Lions another good receiver, although he may need to redshirt to put on some bulk so he can handle blocking.
Quotable: “Ever since I stepped on campus I’ve had a feeling that this was the one. I’m very excited to announce that I am officially committed to The Penn State University.” — from his Twitter
