Jagr getting Penguins honor PITTSBURGH — Jaromir Jagr’s familiar No. 68 is heading to the rafters at PPG Paints Arena. The Pittsburgh Penguins announced on Friday they will retire Jagr’s number before a visit from the Los Angeles Kings on Feb. 18. Jagr spent the first 11 of his 24 seasons in the NHL in Pittsburgh, helping the Penguins win the Stanley Cup in 1991 and 1992. Jagr collected 439 goals and 640 assists in 806 regular-season games with the Penguins from 1990 to 2001. He still remains in the top five in franchise history in games played (fifth), points (fourth), ...

Steelers’ Pickens frustrated

The Associated Press PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens says he can get frustrated when he’s not heavily involved in the offense but his recent move to briefly erase any Steelers content from his Instagram page was unrelated to football. Pickens raised eyebrows when he didn’t seem interested in joining the celebration when Dionate Johnson scored the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter of last Thursday’s win over Tennessee, and he followed it up by momentarily deleting any pictures or mention of the Steelers on the popular social media ...

Steelers next opponent taking small steps on offense

The Associated Press GREEN BAY, Wis. — Perhaps it’s only fitting that the NFL’s youngest team is taking baby steps in its attempt to spark a struggling offense. The Packers (3-5) made at least a modest move forward in a 20-3 victory over the Los Angeles Rams that snapped their four-game skid. In that game, the Packers scored a first-half touchdown for the first time since Sept. 17. Green Bay’s offense will try to continue that progress Sunday at Pittsburgh (5-3) while realizing there’s still plenty of room for improvement. “It’s been a lot of highs and a lot of ...

Tomlin: Minkah may play Sunday

The Associated Press PITTSBUREGH — Pittsburgh Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick could return to practice this week ahead of a visit from Green Bay. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday there’s a chance Fitzpatrick could test out the hamstring he injured in a loss to Jacksonville on Oct. 29. “Minkah is improving,” Tomlin said. “We’ll see what the week holds for him and see if there’s a potential for availability of the latter part of the week.” Pittsburgh (5-3) moved veteran Patrick Peterson to safety in Fitzpatrick’s absence and also moved other members of ...

Holcomb officially done

The Associated Press PITTSBURGH — Cole Holcomb’s season is over. The Pittsburgh Steelers placed the veteran inside linebacker on injured reserve on Monday, four days after Holcomb sustained a serious left knee injury in the first half of a 20-16 win over Tennessee. Holcomb was hurt when Steelers safety Keanu Neal slammed into Holcomb’s left leg while both were attempting to tackle Titans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Holcomb lay on the Acrisure Stadium turf for several minutes before being taken off on a medical cart. The 27-year-old Holcomb, who signed with the Steelers ...

Offensive numbers make you wonder how Steelers are 5-3

By Will Graves The Associated Press PITTSBURGH — Technically, the Pittsburgh Steelers aren’t getting it done with smoke and mirrors. It only feels like it. And at times, it certainly looks like it. The weeks go by and the on-field product looks underwhelming for long stretches. The ...
