NFL preview capsule: Bengals at Steelers

By The Associated Press 2 min read

Records: Cincinnati (2-0); Pittsburgh (1-1)

When/where to watch: Sunday, 1 p.m., CBS

Latest odds: Bengals by 3.5

Against the spread: Bengals 2-0; Steelers 1-1

Last week: Bengals beat Texans 20-6; Steelers lost to Patriots 20-3

Last meeting: Steelers beat Bengals 34-12 on Nov. 16, 2025, in Pittsburgh

Series record: Steelers lead 72-41

Matchup to watch: Pittsburgh's interior offensive line vs. Bengals DTs Dexter Lawrence and Jonathan Allen. The arrival of Lawrence via trade and Allen in free agency has given Cincinnati's front a needed jolt. The two have already made an impact, with Allen picking up a sack in each of his first two games with the club and Lawrence providing a critical fourth down stop last week against Houston. They're facing a Steelers line coming off a miserable performance last week in New England in which Rodgers was sacked four times and failed to produce a touchdown. If they don't take a significant step forward at Acrisure Stadium, a sluggish start will become immeasurably worse.

Stats and stuff

– The teams have split their past 12 meetings since 2020.

– Bengals WR Ja'Marr Chase is one reception shy of tying Carl Pickens for third-most catches in franchise history (530). Chase is also 178 yards away from passing Isaac Curtis for third-most career receiving yards (7,101).

– Burrow's 28 career 300-yard passing games are tied with Andy Dalton for the most ever by a Bengal quarterback. Burrow has hit 300 yards three times in seven games against Pittsburgh. He missed both meetings with Pittsburgh last season because of an injury.

– The Steelers are 9-2 in their past 11 games following a loss of 15 points or more.

– Pittsburgh edge rusher T.J. Watt has 3.5 sacks through two games. He's the only player since sacks became an official statistic in 1982 to have that many through two games twice. Watt has 14.5 sacks in 17 games against Cincinnati.

– The Steelers have converted just 5 of 25 (20%) of their third downs this season, only Green Bay (19 percent) is turning third downs into first downs at a lower rate.
