PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike McCarthy hired former Minnesota Vikings assistant Brian Angelichio on Wednesday to serve as Pittsburgh’s offensive coordinator.
Angelichio spent the past four seasons as the tight ends coach/passing game coordinator in Minnesota.
The hiring is a reunion for McCarthy and Angelichio. Angelichio spent three seasons as the tight ends coach on McCarthy’s staff in Green Bay from 2016-18. Angelchio has also worked for Carolina, Cleveland, Washington and Tampa Bay.
Danny Crossman is joining the Steelers as special teams coordinator. Crossman previously worked in the same position for Carolina, Detroit, Buffalo and Miami.
Joe Whitt Jr., who worked under McCarthy in Dallas from 2021-23, was hired as assistant head coach/secondary. Whitt spent the past two seasons as the defensive coordinator in Washington.
Domata Peko, who spent 15 seasons in the NFL as a defensive tackle, will serve as defensive line coach. Peko was a defensive assistant in Dallas under McCarthy in 2024.
Jets hire Reich
Frank Reich and Aaron Glenn are teammates again with the New York Jets, looking to turn around the fortunes of a frustrated franchise.
Reich was hired Wednesday by Glenn as the Jets’ offensive coordinator — 30 years after they played together on New York’s 1-15 team. The former NFL and Stanford head coach replaces Tanner Engstrand, who agreed to part ways with the team last week after one year running the Jets’ offense during a 3-14 season.
Amid a major coaching staff shakeup this offseason, the 64-year-old Reich gives Glenn an experienced play caller and veteran presence on the offensive side of the ball.
The team hired first-time defensive coordinator Brian Duker last week to replace Steve Wilks, who was fired with three weeks left in the season.
“Frank has a rare combination of experience, creativity, and calm under pressure,” Glenn said in a statement issued by the Jets.
Cards get Hackett
TEMPE, Ariz. — The Arizona Cardinals are hiring veteran coach Nathaniel Hackett as the team’s offensive coordinator, according to a person familiar with the decision.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity on Wednesday because the move hasn’t been announced.
It’s the first major hire for new Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur, who was introduced on Tuesday at the team’s facility. LaFleur — who came to the Cardinals after three seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams — said that he plans on being the team’s primary play-caller.
Hackett was recently hired as the Miami Dolphins’ quarterbacks coach.
