PITTSBURGH — The Steelers interviewed Pittsburgh native Mike McCarthy for their vacant head coaching position on Wednesday.
McCarthy is now the second candidate to interview in person for the position opened when Mike Tomlin stepped down after 19 seasons.
McCarthy was a head coach for the Green Bay Packers for 13 seasons and beat the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV. He also coached the Dallas Cowboys for five seasons.
His interview came after Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores interviewed on Tuesday.
Flores, who was on the Steelers’ staff in 2022 as a senior defensive assistant/linebackers coach, was the head coach of the Miami Dolphins for 2019-21.
The Steelers completed virtual interviews on Monday, and those included Carolina defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, San Francisco offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak, Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, Miami defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver and Los Angeles Rams pass game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase and defensive coordinator Chris Shula.

Now the two are in the NFC South after Atlanta hired Stefanski on Saturday. “Still waiting on a text/call from him after I got shipped off like a piece of garbage,” Mayfield posted. “Can’t wait to see you twice a year, Coach.”
