FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- The Atlanta Falcons announced Friday they interviewed former San Francisco defensive coordinator Steve Wilks and Pittsburgh Steelers secondary coach Grady Brown as the team continued its search for a defensive coordinator.
Brown has coached the Steelers' secondary for four years.
Wilks led the 49ers' defense in 2023 and was a defensive assistant and interim head coach with Carolina in 2022. Wilks also served as Arizona's coach in 2018 before one year as Cleveland's defensive coordinator. He was defensive coordinator for the University of Missouri in 2021.
The Falcons have announced interviews with six candidates.
Green Bay passing game coordinator Derrick Ansley and former Cincinnati assistant Lou Anarumo interviewed on Thursday. The Falcons spoke with New York Jets interim coach and defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich on Wednesday and Michigan defensive coordinator Wink Martindale on Tuesday.
Anarumo was fired as the Bengals' defensive coordinator on Jan. 6. He spent six seasons leading Cincinnati's defense.
The Falcons have been active in their search after firing defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake and defensive line coach Jay Rodgers on Saturday following their 8-9 finish.
Jets talk to Flores
The New York Jets interviewed Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores and quarterbacks coach Josh McCown and Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley for their head coach vacancy.
The trio increased the list to 15 coaching candidates to meet with the Jets, who have also conducted 15 interviews for their general manager job. Flores filed a federal lawsuit in 2022 against the league, the Dolphins, the Giants and the Denver Broncos alleging racist hiring practices for leadership positions across the NFL.
Hafley is coming off his first season running Green Bay's defense. McCown is a former Jets quarterback who has two years of NFL coaching experience.
Titans hire GM
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Titans hired Kansas City assistant general manager Mike Borgonzi as their general manager. The Titans only started interviewing candidates virtually on Jan. 10 and spoke to 10 candidates over the span of four days. Tennessee started the second round Tuesday with two candidates interviewed in person each day through Thursday.
Borgonzi replaces Ran Carthon who was fired last week after the franchise went 9-25 in his two seasons as general manager. Borgonzi also interviewed with the New York Jets for their GM opening. He joins the Titans from the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs.
Dolphins in Spain
The Miami Dolphins will play in the NFL's first-ever regular-season game in Spain when Madrid hosts a matchup next season at iconic Bernabeu Stadium.
The league said Friday that the Dolphins will be the designated "home" team at Real Madrid's venue.
The stadium features a soccer pitch that retracts to make way for a field that can be used for American football. It has a capacity of just over 78,000. The date of the game and Miami's opponent will be announced this spring.
