PITTSBURGH — Kenny Pickett’s days in Pittsburgh are over.
On Friday, the Steelers traded their third-year quartterback to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for draft picks, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Pickett was set to compete with Russell Wilson for the starting job in 2024.
According to Schefter, the Steelers will receive the No. 98 pick and two 2025 seventh-round pick in exchange for Pickett and the No. 120 pick.
Pickett, 25, was the team’s first-round pick in 2022 and started 24 games, going 14-10 as their starter. He threw for 4,474 yards and 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
With Pickett gone, the Steelers are left with Wilson as the lone QB on their roster. They’ll look to add another option in free agency or in April’s NFL Draft.
Wilson signed a one-year deal in Pittsburgh worth $1.2 million. He’d need to sign an extension after the season if the Steelers want him to remain their starter moving forward.
Ironically, news of the Pickett trade broke shortly after Wilson was introduced to the Pittsburgh media.
