PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said during his weekly press conference on Tuesday that wide receiver Diontae Johnson will get a chance to speak to his teammates and the media about his actions during Sunday's win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Johnson couldn't secure a touchdown pass in the first half and seemed to go through the motions on the next play. He barely blocked the Bengals' DJ Turner II on the play and turned his back when Steelers running back Jaylen Warren fumbled the ball and Turner scooped it up and returned it 28 yards.
While several of his teammates ran after Turner, Johnson didn't follow and just walked off the field. Johnson has been ripped by many in the national media for his actions.
"Diontae can't let the emotions of the previous down affect his next down, but I'll give him an opportunity to address that with you guys," Tomlin said. "I'll give him an opportunity to address that with his teammates. I'm not going to add any additional color. I think plays like that are best described and outlined by those involved and less so by guys like me."
After Sunday's game, Johnson told reporters that he did not see the ball or realize it was a fumble.
"I just didn't see it," Johnson said. "I was just doing what I was doing -- blocking or whatever."
Tomlin also said on Tuesday that quarterback Kenny Pickett is dealing with ankle discomfort that could affect his practice availability this week.
